WEBINAR: Roles of Women in Haiti’s Struggle for Freedom and Independence. - 05/18/2021
To commemorate the roles women played in the struggle for Haiti's freedom
SYNOPSIS: The fight for freedom started at the time they were captured in Africa and continued in myriad of ways during the time of bondage. While little is known and documented in a coherent manner about women’s participation in the freedom struggle, snippets of information have revealed they were both directly and indirectly involved in the battle for freedom against slavery. This presentation will review and discuss the many roles that women played in the struggle for freedom in St Domingue and in the ensuing war for the creation of the first Black republic and the second revolution in the Americas in the late 18th and early 19th century.
